Order of Service: September 16, 2018
Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
For the word of the LORD is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.
Psalm 33 1-5 (ESV)
I'm trying something new, here: posting the order of service before Sunday morning. We often think of preparing to hear the Word preached, but I believe it's worth preparing for the rest of the service as well. We come not only to be taught, but for "teaching and admonishing one another" (Colossians 3:16). We often think of singing as a time to prepare for the ministry of the Word, yet the Bible teaches us that singing IS ministry of the Word. My hope is that posting the service order, with links to the songs we're planning to sing, will help you prepare for this ministry.
Welcome & Announcements
Call to Worship: Psalm 33:1-5 (see above)
Song of Praise: Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless Love
This is a new song for us. It is difficult to find fast songs that are singable, playable, and theologically rich, but I believe this one is a worthy addition to our repertoire.
Confession of Faith: New City Catechism, Question 42
Songs of Preparation: We Are Listening; Be Thou My Vision
Since this week's question focuses on the reading and hearing of the Word of God, we will spend some extra time in our song service preparing to hear the scripture reading and sermon.
